Plato was an Athenian philosopher during the Classical period in Ancient Greece, student of Socrates (c. 470–399 BCE), teacher of Aristotle (384–322 BCE) and author of philosophical works of unparalleled influence. He was the founder of the Platonist school of thought, and the Academy, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world.
